The Palestinian Nakba 2013 denounces the complicity between Catalonian Government and Israel

On Friday May 10th, the Palestinian Hope Award will be the first of a series of mobilization activities within the campaign “No more complicity with Israel,” which commemorates the Palestinian Nakba.

The May 15, 1948, date of the Nakba (the disaster), Israel forcibly expelled hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homes, lands and peoples. Since 2008, organizations and Palestine solidarity movements join forces to raise awareness of the causes of the occupation of Palestinian territories. An appropriate day to denounce the apartheid regime imposed by the Israeli government to the Palestinian people and promote BDS (Boycott, Sanctions and Divestment) as the most useful and powerful strategy. Catalan Solidarity Movement believes that BDS strategy will force the Israeli government to change its policy of repression against the Palestinian people, as happened in South Africa.

In this edition, also the Palestinian solidarity movement is marked in order to define new participation mechanisms to increase their support for a wider range of citizens. For that reason, is scheduled to hold a conference of coordination on 1 June, that will bring together all individuals and social organizations working, in one way or another, for Human Rights and for a Peace with Justice in Palestine.

This year’s campaign is focused on the business of weapons and security, with particular emphasis on collaborative links between Catalonia and Israel. According to the Palestine support movement, the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan police) do part of their training in Israel, which is certainly one of the best business assets, being the Palestinian population the target of their tests.

Businesses weapons pose the constant violation of human rights, fact that Amb Palestina al Cor, Palestine suport Movement, along with other civil society groups, intend to denounce with this campaign.
