Avaaz begins a campaign for the nonviolent action in Palestine

The digital social mobilization platform, Avaaz, has launched a campaign to support the nonviolent action movements in Palestine under the name Palestine’s nonviolent hope

The global online community for mobilization, Avaaz, has begun a campaign to support and promote nonviolent action in Palestine. Alice Jay, campaign director of the digital platform, visited the West Bank in recent days. Her feelings can be read on the Avaaz website: “They need funds for lawyers when they are jailed on spurious charges, cameras to document abuses, training in media skills and nonviolent tactics, and campaigners to take this local protest global”.

Already in 2012, coinciding with the visit of President Abbas to the UN to ask for recognition of Palestine as a State, Avaaz presented an opinion poll made by Metroscopia which found that 92% of Spaniards supported the right of Palestine to have their own state.

“Deprived of the protection of their own state, generations of Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank and in refugee camps scattered across the Middle East have only known the tyranny of fear and impoverishment”, wrote Alice Jay and Luis Morago, also an Avaaz member, in 2012.

Now, Avaaz support to Palestine goes on and its “nonviolent hope” has reached 30,000 euros in 12 days. “Let’s support to implement  this peaceful movement to prevail over extremists”, says Jay.
