Israel is the key actor of an armed conflict which lasts more than sixty years and exists in the center of global geopolitics, having important implications for regional and global stability. Proceeds from this reality Israel has become one of the most militarized states in the world and producer of the most innovative systems in the military and security field. The violence that affects the region has become a source of profit which is based on the armed conflict.
In this situation, NOVACT as an Institute that elaborates reports of applied research and status quo reports aiming at building advocacy campaigns, made, in 2009 together with the researcher Alejandro Pozo, the report “Spain – Israel “Military, Homeland Security and Armament – Based Relations, Affairs and Trends”. The purpose of this report was to deepen the different relations between Spain and Israel, including export and import of arms, business cooperation, agreements and practices in military and security field, and try to answer the question to which extend Spain contributes to violence in one of the most abused regions of the world.
In his advocacy role in Catalonia, NOVACT is part of the Coordinating Committee Amb Palestina al Cor, which was created in 2008 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba and gathers all NGOs and social movements in Catalonia which are working for awareness raising of public opinion with the objective to promote active solidarity with Palestinian people, to denounce the violation of Human Rights by the state of Israel and that politicians and institutions at national, European and international level position themselves firmly and decisively in defense of the legitimate rights of Palestinian people, on the basis of achievement of just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
Within this framework, it was launched the platform No més complicitat amb Israel (No More Complicity with Israel). A platform for action that has regained the Negocis Ocults (Hidden Business) campaign to show leadership role Israel plays in the design, research, implementation and how it sales abroad different enforcement and repression systems. The purpose is to open the debate and reflection on the extent to which we are contributing to violence against Palestinian civil society, such as Spanish and Catalan companies and corporations profit at the expense of employment, with the support and approval of our governments. The campaign consists of different phases, with research and analysis, all in order to denounce the guilty ones and put pressure on actors with competence in foreign policy to respect the code of conduct established by the European Union. The advocacy campaign will claim a military embargo on Israel.
