On Saturday March 14th, from 10:30 to 13:30 at the Bonnemaison Space (C/ Sant Pere més Baix, 7. Barcelona), the conference “Women, Resistance and Palestine” will take place. This event aims to bring to the Catalan population the situation of women in Palestine, reflect about the unequal power relations between the East and the West -which also occurs between women- and the impacts that cultural differences have in the liberation or emancipation of women.
The event aims to expose the growing violence against women today. From a feminist perspective, several Palestinian women will explain the strategies they use to break with the prevailing stereotypes in society. Meanwhile, Suheir Farraj, director of TAM Center, will explain what challenges Palestinian women are facing, through specific cases of women after the last massacre in Gaza.
At the end of the event, various forms of resistance in Palestine will be analyzed. On the one hand, representatives of the Popular Struggle Coordination Committee will explain their experience in nonviolent action for ten years through demonstrations against the wall built by the Israeli government. Moreover, representatives of the International Solidarity Movement will share latest information about the campaign ‘The boys from Hares’; five children accused, without any evidence, by the Israeli government of throwing stones to Israeli vehicles. There will be also a connection via skype with one of the imprisoned boys’ mother.
Finally, members of the Coalition Prou Complicitat will explain the functioning and objectives of this new platform that aims, from Catalonia, to raise awareness about the human rights violations that are occuring in Palestine and urge the Catalan government, private companies and Catalan universities to end with the complicity they maintain with Israel.
