International Day of Peace

“There is no way to peace; peace is the way.”

Today, 21st of September, is the International Day of Peace.

The International Day of Peace was originally established in 1981 by the resolution 37/67 of the United Nations General Assembly to coincide with the opening of its session every September, but it is only in 2001 that was celebrate for the first time.

What peace means?

To NOVACT-International Institute for Nonviolent Action, peace means to live in a world free of armed conflict and the different types of violence that exist; live in a society where human rights and human security are respected and where every human being can live in a dignified and equitable manner.

To achieve this, for years we have worked on projects that promote the culture of peace and nonviolence strategies used for social transformation. Our course of action is support for nonviolent and peaceful civil resistance movements; the development of civil and nonviolent peace-keeping operations and the use of advocacy in order to ensure that governmental, local and international actors work in favor of human security, peace building and democracy.
