On Thursday 17 March, NOVACT, together with the Federation of NGOs of Catalonia, organise a conference to discuss the current refugee crisis in the Mediterranean area and denounce the agreement between the European Union and Turkey in this context. Ahmed Galai is a member of the Tunisian Human Rights League (LTDH) and he will be the guest of honour at this event. The LTDH is an organisation which was awarded with the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize for their support towards the democratic transition in Tunisia and for their contribution to national dialogue. The conference, to be held at the headquarters of LaFede at 19.00, is also part of the demonstration which will take place in several european cities on Saturday 19 March, on the international day against racism, fascism and Islamophobia.
The current refugee crisis in the Mediterranean is also affecting Tunisia, which is now a transit country for migrants in their hope to reach Europe. This country is building refugee camps to house thousands of Libyans and sub-Saharan, among others, fleeing armed conflict as well as political, economic, social and environmental instabilities in their countries of origin.
The Tunisian Human Rights League is a strategic partner of NOVACT in the Maghreb area and is currently collaborating in the project KHOTWA which promotes the participation of civil society in Mauritania, Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia towards regional integration in North Africa.
