On the 22nd of November, the Maghreb Coordination of Human Rights Organizations (CMODH), will hold a press conference in Rabat (Morocco) on the situation of Human rights in the country. This conference will provide insight into the main conclusions on the sixth revision of the Covenant on Civil and Political Rights in Morocco, which took place last October in Geneva, as well as the recommendations made by the UN Human Rights Committee to the Improvement of the guarantee of human rights in the country.
The press conference will be held at the headquarters of the National Syndicate of the Moroccan Press in Rabat and will be attended by numerous human rights organizations in the country as well as social movements. The CMODH will present its position on the human rights situation in the country, with particular emphasis on the need to advance in the defense of the rights of association, peaceful demonstration and freedom of expression. Recall that the main Moroccan human rights organizations, including the Moroccan Human Rights Association, the Moroccan Human Rights League and the CMODH itself, have been victims of bans on the activities and renewal of their boards of directors, and that several international NGOs – among them Amnesty International and NOVACT – have had to close their offices in the country after the deportation of their personnel.
This activity is part of the KHOTWA project: Promoting regional integration of the Maghreb, which aims to promote the participation of civil society in Mauritania, Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia in the regional integration of North Africa.
